Craft Rooibos

Description

Just like the mate Rooibos is a binder, helping the usage of other medicinal plants. It has the caracteristics of merging without loosing its identity. Even without mixing with other herbs, Rooibos is an excellent non-caffenated plant that is innately sweet. Do to its sweet and pleasant flavour it is very well suited  to introduce children to the healthy habit of drinking herbal infusions.

Origins: This craft Rooibos was wild harvested and hand-fermented by Meta Mate in April 2017. This small craft production was a total of 1,5 kg that was done as a joint adventure between Meta Mate and Yerba Mate South Africa.  We counted on the help of a Farmer to find the bushes in the high areas of the Cederberg Mountains in South Africa. This Rooibos is 100% hand processed and it might be the only craft Rooibos been offered on the market.  This is a fair trust project to inspire the concept of food sovereignity and security in the area of healing plants.  Just like our craft mate, this small scale production enables the local producers to enjoy the very same product that we consume.

Usage: Use as a tea, or as mate with a bomba. Or you can just put in in a thermos with boiling water and let it steep for at least 10 minutes and enjoy throughout the day.  One special way, traditional in south africa is to make a kettle with a strong Rooibos infusion in the morning and to keep adding water and let it simmer for 10 minutes each time you need more  In the evening before sleeping you might have a dark almost black infusion that is perfect to add milk and honey.

Our recommendation for Materos:  Put the Rooibos in your thermos with boiling water, let it steep for at least 10 minutes and then add a bit of cold water to bring the water temperature down to suit mate drinking.
