Proposal to define PAH limits in drinks adopted by coalition in Berlin City Council
The Mate Cancer Research Project that we carried out last year in conjunction with the Beuthe University revealed that there are no maximum limits for carcinogenic PAH contents in drinks such as Mate, Coffee and Tea.
As Mate has been often linked with Cancer and mate drinking is increasing in popularity here in Germany, as responsible producers, we want to ensure that our consumers can make informed decisions about their beverage preferences.
While we do provide information upon request regarding the PAH contents of the Mates that we tested, we wish that this would be a norm, so the ‘Mate Lobby’ networked with the Pirate representatives in Berlin and we proposed an initiative through Liquid Feedback to state the limits of benzo (a) pyrene substances in drinks.
This proposal was adopted by the Coalition in the Berlin City Council at the end of October 2013.
