As we continue to accompany the Club Mate Reforestation project, our most recent step was to confront an army of ants that was attacking our Arucaria trees.
Out of the 40 trees that we received, 25 are in good condition, 10 are perhaps salvagable and 5 unfortunately did not withstand the past months.
This is all part of a learning experience and we will ensure that they are watered sufficiently and someone has ben encharged to protect the area from being harmed by local tractors.
In March we will plant Oats on the ground which will fertilize the soil for August when we plant the Mate.
Ah, the army of ants – we annointed our Arucaria trees with the Ayurvedic herbicide Neem, hopefully they can now continue to grow tall to provide enough shade on the land.
