About Invasiva — Our Rose Mate Edition
A different expression of mate.
Invasiva brings together South American mate culture and the botanical tradition of Bulgaria.
This edition combines one-year aged craft yerba mate with rose petals from the Kazanlak Valley, Bulgaria — the same region renowned for roses used in fine French perfumery.
The roses were researched, self-harvested and dried locally in 2015 by Yerba Mate Bulgaria, with whom the edition was developed.
The result is a distinctive mate that brings together the character of aged yerba mate with the floral presence of Bulgarian rose.
The Story Behind Invasiva · The Artwork
Invasiva is more than a botanical blend.
The edition is connected to Onde estão os Yanomamis? (“Where are the Yanomamis?”), a mixed-media work by Fabricio do Canto & João Amado.
Created using archival inventory sheets from a 1969 business, the artwork reflects on systems of extraction, expansion and control, exploring how economic structures reshape territories, memories and Indigenous identities. The artwork became part of the visual language behind Invasiva, connecting forests, culture and botanical craftsmanship.
In the artwork Invasiva, an Indigenous figure gradually disappears beneath layers of numbers, referencing the invasive logic of abstraction and profit. The recurring number 216 refers to Article 216 of the Brazilian Constitution and its protection of material and immaterial cultural heritage.
