Description

Meta Mate Leaves

The family Gehm converted and old plantation of soja into a mate forest with incredible diversity. Many kinds of erva mate tree can be found there.

The Family Gehm has been producing mate since 3 generations in the region of Sede Nova in South Brasil.  They are proud artisanal mate producers who have taken the first steps towards legalising their production together with us.

Meta Mate produced by the family Gehm is a surprisingly soft Barbaqua Mate.  Having mastered the techniques of harvesting leaves in a manner that does not damage the tree, like other artisanal producers, they harvest from native plants paying attention to the moon phases.

When requested by the local agricultural department to modify their production techniques to adhere to industrial standards, the father head what was requested and stated that if he  did he was told he would be left with a legal mate that none of his customers would like to drink.

Drying and Sapeco techniques are something that mate producers pride themselves in and give each mate its own characteristic.  The Family Gehm’s production and infrastructure is slightly larger than other artisanal producers, the sapeco is done manually with the help of a metal drum that is revolved around the fire and the Gehm’s Barbaqua can hold a few hundred kilos of Mate.  The Gehm’s secret in attaining the soft taste to their mate lies in lighting up the fire and heating up the barbaqua before setting the mate on the drying racks.

The industry today dictates that mate should be pounded by metal blades instead of the traditional wodden mills.

The first artisanal mate production that applied for the legalization. A barbaqua mate that has a gentle smokey taste, a very bright color and counts with knowledge of 4 generations producing mate non stop.

Now I try new Erva Gehm
The light smell of fire and forest all over the room
The taste is mild and saturated, there is no bitterness, only freshness of woods and dark chocolate…
After the second pouring I was already lying on the sofa with cuia in my hand. After the third turned on Schubert’s music.
20 minutes every part of my body was lying on the sofa away from me
Now I’m gathered … Continue to degustate))
Very persistent taste, creates a smooth positive mood. I already poured 1 liter but used only half of that is in cuia
And he is still foams, it is a masterpiece …
Thanks to Fabricio that provided the opportunity to try this great variety of Erva!

Simply awesome, it´s a simphony of flavours like forest, wood and smoked green pepper very well coupled. My opinion: I don´t reccomend this erva for a quick mate session or if you´re hurry. The Gehm erva should be tasted slowly, in good company or alone with your thoughts and ejoying every sip, otherwise, if you´re hurry, you´ll be late, sure!
Thank you to the Gehm family and to Meta Mate for make and bring to us this absolut masterpiece!
